  This is my place of places to go and chill and hang out. It's open from 7pm to midnight every night. The only time it closes is New Year's or is it - yeah New Year's eve. But this place you can be who you are. No pretense. Tucked in the covey of uptown on Danneel Street which is between St. Charles and Freret Street is the place for musicians to play before a live audience. Caveat - sometimes you have to bring your own crowd. But if you promote your show - they'll pass the tip basket around and you could make a few dollars for the night. Every musician that's worth their salt has booked a show there. Allain Touissaint played there before his untimely death. Now on Sundays there is an open mic. It's the longest running Open Mic in the south. Now there is no alcohol which makes it a great place for recovering alcoholics to enjoy a nightlife.

  Haven't been yet, but the owner, Phil Melancon made a huge impact on my life back in the 1980's. I was one of his students, for several years, at Rudolph Matas elementary school in the G.T. program. I don't live in New Orleans anymore, but you'd better believe I'm headed to this coffee house when I return.
  
  Edit: I did in fact go to this coffee house during labor day weekend 1996. I had just left New Orleans a month prior, when I went off to college.
  I didn't know the name, and I wasn't the one driving, so I never returned, because I didn't know exactly where it was. Not to mention, my college aged mind was a bit foggy, to say the least.
  It was, and I'm sure still is, an awesome place. Even though I haven't been there in almost 20 years, I can make this assertion with a great degree of certainty, due to the ownership.
  
  Also, Mr. Phil, how apropos that my first contact with you after all these years is on Google Maps?
  You, after all, were the one who gave me my second grade nickname "Map-you"!
